Misc. Notes
Dated from grave markers. Zalmon was Maggie Steven's father. Ed and Maggie were related but no blood relation. The Storrs always appeared to be above common people. Only one of W.R. Storrs children married. I believe some of this rubbed off on my grandmother Stevens as she expected great from her children and sent my mother to music college, ect. She was terribly disappointed when my mother married poor homesteading dad.
I spent a month visiting Grandfather and Grandmother Stevens on several summers when I was in grade School.Grand dad did not say much but just went along trying to make a living in the dust bowl depression. Grandmother kept the house and did a lot of cooking. I always enjoyed her pantry and the cookies. In later year she got arthritis bad and eventually was in a wheel chair. She spent some time with us when I was in High School. She lived with her son, John, and his wife, Ruth, who really cared for her. Granddad did what he could. When she died she was frozen in a sitting position and mother often wondered if they had to break her legs to get her in a coffin. Grandmother used to cry a lot from the pain. In those days aspirin was about the only analgesic available.
