Misc. Notes
Marion Rose Stevens was married June 1. 1915 to William Michael Cady. Daughter of Edwin H. Stevens and Margaret ( Storrs ) Stevens. Bird Haug Somverville says that she remember Marion and her sister Beth coming to her home on horseback wearing elegant hats.My mother, Marion Cady, was a beautiful person. She had a hard life but went through life uncomplaining. She was well educated and very musically inclined. She went to music college at Bellevue, Nebraska, and played the violin and piano. She gave lessons in both instruments. This money was used to cloth we children and take care of us in various ways. She was very arthritis, like her mother, and in later years could not play instruments. As a young woman, she used to play in the family orchestra that placed for country dances. I used to enjoy hearing her play the piano or pump organ and sing with members of her family. We used to play violin duets at church. She was a caring person and helped people as she could. During the depression of the 1930 s many transients came off the freight trains and begged for food. She gave what she could which wasn't much. She loved her children and grandchildren and helped us a lot in caring for our children. She developed leukemia and Shirley, my wife, took care of her till she died in our home. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Marion Cady taught school at Walk's Camp no #1 and when she married taught a term at Flat Top in Washington Co. One of her students at Walk's Camp No.1, Mabel Huffman Burgess, says that Mother rode horse back the 2 1/2 miles most of the time but once brought a buggy hooked to a mare and left the colt at home. When she was ready to leave the mare was so anxious to get home that they could not get the buggy through the gate as she kept putting the buggy into the gate posts. They had to unhook the mare and pull the buggy through the gate and then rehitched to get away. --------------------------------------------------------------
