Misc. Notes
He was born in Oregon, one source says Dec 20 and another Dec 26, 1852,and at an age of about 7 went with his family back to Wisconsin by the way of the Panama Canal and up the coast to New York. . They lived with Uncle Henry Cady in Rochester Wisconsin till his dad built a huge house south of Lake Geneva, Wisc. When his dad died, his mother took them all to farms in Linn Co,Missouri, which had just been purchased. As a young adult he courted Elizabeth Wilcox, the daughter of Dr. Wilcox of Linneus, Mo.. After marriage they had children near Linneus and then he moved to Humphreys, Mo. a little town a few miles north in Linn Co.where he had a livery stable. He had several children there and then trailed his family to Southern Missouri to Linn Creek. He grew a lot of fruit but there was no market and the family suffered. Then he went to Limon Colo to homestead. He was in his middle fifty and in poor health. He did not have enough money to build a windmill and had to pump all his water for the house and stock by hand. He had a coronary and died in the home of his son, Thomas, while he was there helping him build fence. They took a farm wagon and a team of horses and went to Limon where the Gates Mercantile sold coffins. They took one to the ranch and buried him in a local rural cemetery at Walks Camp. THE Walks Camp Methodist Cemetery is on highway 71 north 14 3/4 miles ( road jogs) on the east side of the road about 1/4 mile north of jog. Information from his children, William Cady, Alice Moulder and Ruth Davis to Thomas Cady. Ruth Davis at the age of 95 is still alive and alert and has given good record.
Bird Haug Somerville ( aged 97 in 1995 ) says that her father's ranch was next to Granddad’s homestead but they were not the best of friends because Mr. Haug was a Democrat and Granddad Cady was a Republican and they used to argue a lot. Ruth Davis says that they were good neighbors.
