She was the daughter of Dr. Wilcox of Linneus, Missouri and grew up in a nice family of learned people. Two of her brothers were lawyers and an uncle was a Confederate veteran who was in politics and served locally as sheriff and in the State legislature. My poor Grandfather Cady wooed her along with others and I have bunch of his love letters to her which she saved. She was well liked by all who knew her and when she was losing her sight she had a lot of help from neighbors. When Grandfather died, she even lived with neighbors for a while until she went back Lebanon, Missouri, where she lived with her daughter, Alice Cady Moulder till she died. When I was in the fourth grade she came out to Julesburg, Colorado, and stayed with us for some time. She was totally blind at the time and really had a lonely existence, never wanting to be in a corner but in the center of the room. My sister and I used to take her for walks, leading her by the hand. Bird Haug Somerville stated that Grandmother was a dear dear lady and a special friend of her mothers. The Haugs were long on meat and the Cadys were long on wild blackberry jam and how thrilled they were when Mrs Cady came over the hill in her sun bonnet and a tin pail of jam. Giving her some pork was a nothing.
