I graduated from High School there and earned a degree in Normal training. which gave me the right to teach in rural schools The next year I taught a one room school 35 miles from a road in the Sand Hills. I was paid 400 dollars for the term and saved 335 dollars. I went through college on this. World war 2 came along and I was 4 F ( physically unable to serve ). I had become a registered Pharmacist and was hired by the Panama Canal as a pharmacist in the Colon Hospital,Cristobal, C.Z. After the war was over I went to Durango, Colo, to work, then to Grants, N.M. to run a drug store. Here I met and married Shirley Gustin in 1948. I was treasurer of the building fund when we built a new chapel for the Methodist church, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Charter member of the Gilbert Lions Club. instrumental for the paving of the whole town, put western fronts on all of main street, was on a hospital board for 9 years, was on the State Board of Pharmacy for 10 years, I traveled for the National Board of Pharmacy inspecting State Board exams.traveling and inspecting State Board exams, then was president of the Arizona Pharmaceutical Assn. After selling my business in 1950, I worked 13 years for The Samaritan Hospital Assn, 7 months of clinic work at Cibeque on the Apache reservation and 5 years as part time pharmacist at the Winslow Memorial Hosp. At 77 years, I quit. I have jungle searched, hunted big game, owned an interest in a river running raft floated on rivers in Az, Utah and Idaho. Then I took up petroglyph searching and genealogy. Shirley and I have raised a good family who have been successful in their various occupations.
Tom E. Cady, returned to his Father on April 27, 2008. He was barried in the Lakeside Cemetary, Lakeside, Navajo County, Arizona. Many of his friends from Gilbert were at the funeral. Indeed, many individuals that we had not seen in years came because they considered him a friend.
He was living with his Duaghter, Connie Spencer at the time of his death. He and Shirley had not been able to live alone for about 2 years. They had always had a place at Connie’s. Dad passed while Connie and family were on vacation. Thomas Michael (Mike) Cady was at his side.
