From early boyhood Mr. Modlin has been a member of the Methodist church and has lived a constant and devoted Christian life. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church on Sunday at 3 o'clock, the funeral discourse being delivered by Rev. J. C. Walker. For more that forty years Mr. Modlin was an active member of the Franternity of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and in conformity with usage and request of the deceased member whose memory is revered by them, the lodge at this time took charge of the ceremony and rendered the last tribune of respect which the living can give to the dead. Several members of the fraternity from Mankako and Eslion attended. A large concourse ofpeople from all the surrounding county followed the remains to their resting place in the City of the Silent Dead, there to lie until summonded into the presence of the Grand Master of the Universe where it is hoped that the trestle board of his life shall pass such inspection that he may be given to " eat of the hidden manna" and receive the "white stone with a new name" that will insure perpetual and unspeakable joy at his right hand. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1875 census index obtained from Kansas State Historical Society E.
