He moved from West Virgina to Ohio when he was a young boy. He grew to be a tall angular man and wore a goatee. He married a neighborhood girl, Nancy Carpemter, and bought his fathers farm which he kept for one year and sold it back to him. He had the urge to west and he , wife and baby daughter went to Van Buren Co, Iowa. He lived here for 21 years before moving to Mahaska Co. Iowa living near Granville and the near Pella.
