Notes from Helen Gustin- I found Bennaja and Ann Gustin in Scioto Co, Green Township, Ohio in 1850 census but the name looked like Bennj Augustin. They had two children, Samuel Jefferson, her grandfather and Phillip A. at the time. The two oldest. In 1860, I found them in Franklin Furnace, Scioto Co, Ohio, Elizabeth Township. They had added Alpheus M.,Bathe, Dustin W.,and Sarah E. Also living in the household was Josaphine ( Isaminger ) servant. In 1870, the father was gone ( 8.17.65) and the family is in Scioto Co, Green Township and Emma is added. In 1880 they are still in the same place but the mother is gone too and Alpheus is listed as head of the household. He is also the census taker and writes beautifully. Only four are at home, Alpheus, Dustin, Libby ,Sarah Elizabeth and Emma. Also included in the household is aunt and housekeeper, Josephine Isaminger.Samuel Jefferson is in Burk Co. Nebr. with a wife and four children and brother Charlie living with him . In 1900 Alpheus was in Kearney Nebr. and brother Charlie was with him. Dustin, Emma and Libby were in Portsmouth, Ohio and old Aunt Isaminger is still living with Libby In 1910, Phillip was living in Orchard, Nebr.with a wife and about 5 stepchildren. He and his wife are buried in the Orchard Cemetery. -----------------------------------------------------------------
We visited the grave site in the Powellsville Cemetery two differen years. There is a large shaft as memorial to him, his wife and daughter Bathe Hannah who died at the age of 10. We visited the cemetery in 1992 and 1998. The graves are to the far right as you enter the cemetery.
We have his medicine cupboard and desk combined. Antique furniture catalogues shows it as a merchants desk of the 1840’s

The materials on Benaja's first marriage to Faknna Isaminger and his son Thomas is from an article in the FAMILIES magazine to the Toronto branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society Vol 36,No. 3 1997. Article written by Jack Henderson. 408 N 17 th St, Alpine Tx 79830 Ido not believe this is true and I have found no evidence of this first marriage anywhere else.
The materials and dates look good
