Newspaper Obit.” May Ellen Meek born in Zanesville.Ohio 9 Dec 1842 died at her home 2 1/2 miles S.E. of Almena, Ks. on 15 Jan 1917 aged 74 yrs 1 mo 6 days. Married Israel Lewis bennett at reeces Mills, Ind. 26 May 1859. To this union 7 children were born: five boys and two girls. The eldest daughter ( Jennie ) having proceeded her in death 15 years ago. She leaves an aged husband and children W.F.Bennett-Logan, J.E.Bennett-Downs, J. Augustus Bennett-Lenora, Otto Z Bennett-Almena,Ks. C.H.Bennett-New Orleans.La.Della Marsh-Fonduluc,Wisc. Also 16 grandchildren and i great granchild . She and her husband spent the first 5 years of their married life in Iowa and Missouri and in 1879 migrated to Kansas. About 30 years ago they took a homesteadnortheast of Lenora where they lived until about four years ago when they moved to a farm near Almena. In early life united with the Methodist Church. Short services held at home by Rev. George Snow. Remains conveyed to Birchville Church where funeral was conducted by Rev. Sherman Archer of Logan and body was laid to rest at Mt.Olive Cemetery
