From THE MAKING OF A TOWNSHIP-FAIRMOUNT TOWNSHIP PG 174 pg 174 ‘ In 1865, The Fairmount Wesleyan Church was organized and amoung first members were Joseph Bennett and Wife”. pg 261 ‘Joseph Bennett and Josephus Bennett are father and son.”
Pg 188 he was a school trustess Apr 1872 to Apr 1874. History of Black Creek Weslyn Church, Joseph Bennet was the first pastor Pg 389 “ It is not all smiths that could do every kind of work. Some were more skilled than others. Joe Bennett, I recollect best, for the reason that he did my father’s work longer than any other smith. Joe, was drafted, as many others , to go to the Army. He told his hearers that he was going to leave his bible at home and take up the sword. My recollection is that Joe came hme and took up his bible. He was in the Civil War Campaign for 24 th Battery. Liberation of east Tennessee. First battery to cross the mountains to Montgmery,Tn. Onto Ky. in 1863
Cause of death was old age and stomach problems.
He had a cancerous right eye removed, He was blind in his left eye Civil War injuries of fracturing 8,9,10 rib near the spine which caused sores and pains the rest of his life. Also had reoccuring feet and leg sores, also exema.
IN 1898 HE bought a lot n Marion,Ind. for $200.00, in 1850 Assessors list for Spiceland,Henry Co,Ind. shows person property of$100.00. IN 1850 census of Spiceland,Henry C.Ind lists Hester-wife,Joseohus-son, Catherine-mother, Elizabeth-sister. Occupaion Blacksmith. Worth $300.00 In worth.. In 1877 Grant Co Ind Atlas Libert Township pg 106 Sect 1 in 1853 Farmer.1900 Grant Co,Ind.census Living in National Military Home-Marion branch. He was in 1870 census Liberty Grant Co Ind Pg
