from RESEARCH FILES OF EDWIN WITTER John MacCoone Jr. was granted 100 acres of land in Westerly in 1692 and 1709 and took the freeman oath there in 1723. He was a petid juryman in 1697 and a fence viewer in 1701. He had his animal earmark in 1698. In 1702 he was granted 100 acres of land and in 1702 helped run the town line. He married a lady named Anne and had 8 children among them Daniel born in 1698. John Jr. died about 1733 at the age of 67 ----------------------------------------------------------------- from Wightman Him and his wife deeded most of their land to their oldest two sons in 1724. HIS WILL WAS PROVED 15 DEC. 1732 John willed to his wife a third of movables and a third profit of the farm where I dwell, also a featherbed, two cows, a mare ten sheep and the best room in the house, all for life, while widow and provisions in the house.To eldest son, John, two year old beast and 10 acres of land. To second son, Daniel, 5 pounds and a two year old beast and certain land and inventory, 392 pounds and horses, mares, sheep and a pair of oxen, 5 cows, 5 two year olds, 5 yearlings, three calves, two linen wheels, pewter, warming pan, ect ---------------------------------------------------------------- He was listed in the 1688 Census as John MCoun Junior at Cambridge, Mass. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From the Compendium of American Genealogy - Vol V1 by Fred Virkus John ( 1666 - 1733 ) Hopkinton R.I.: Granted 100 acres, 1692, 1709: Freeman, 1723, Married Ann ???? of Westerly, R.I. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From The Bates Centennial Farm of Rockton, Ill. 1857-1990 John MacCoone Jr. did not marry until about 1700 when he was about thirty four years of age. He bought 100 acre grants of land from Robert Burdick on March 28, 1692 and March 28, April 7 1709. The Assembly of the Colony of Rhode Island confirmed him as a freeman as John Mackoun. His wife ,Anne. was a resilient person as she had 8 children between 1700 and 1709. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF RHODE ISLAND by John O Austin 1693- 28 March He was granted 100 acres. 1702- 7 April He had 100 acres of land granted to him. 1724- 15 April he and wife Ann deeded sons John and Daniel certain lands. ----------------------------------------------------------------
