From book FRESNO CO. IN THE 20 TH CENTURY,pg 237 C.M. Bennett, who started a sawmill in 1883, moved his mill from Rush Creek to Stevenson Meadow in the season of 1888 with logging done with horses and ox teams. Again the mill was moved to Winchell Meadow and the operation closed in 1902, still using the same logging methods,, Bennett then built another double circular sawmill, steam driven, the season of 1906. The mill was located in very rough country and he spent all his money and time building 5 miles of road. Bennet could not raise enough money to operate the next season and PETREY took over. Lumber sold to the flume co. The Bennett mill closed in the fall of 1912 a total of 29 years of heartbreaking effort for C.M.Bennett from start to finally losing the last mill.
