Besides the three sons that we have listed in the Revolutionary War Rev Samuel had a son Thomas or Joshua that was also in the Revolutionary War. There was also an Edward Gustin in the war as a Colonel of the Militia and his brother, Walter Gustin ,also served in the Revolutionary War- -----------------------------------------------------------------

He and his sister, Abigail, came to Lyme Conn. before 1739 They each married in Lyme and lived as neighbors for several years where they were among the earliest settlers.

He took oath agreeable to the Constitution of Vt. on March 3.1778. He was listed on the citizen’s list of Rockingham Vt. in 1781 and served as a moderator of the town in the same year.

In the census of 1790 he and his wife were listed in the home of his son John.

Samuel Gustin was active in the early history of the Baptist Churches in Lyme, Marlow and Rockingham so a brief outline of their development may be of interest. Just when he became a Baptist is not know but probably before 1763, From that time his life was closely associated with the Baptist Church. In 1764 and 1765 a group of Baptists lead by Samuel Gustin built the first settlement in East Lyme. For a few years he lead the religious community but it has not been proven that he was an ordained minister.
