John Gustin served in the Revolution and was at the capture of Genera; Burgoyne. Mustered out 14 June 1775 FHL films 15219 and 1520 John Gustin’s will was dated 19 May 1815, Probated 27 Sept 1815 in Keene, Cheshire, NH File G - 113

Samuel and John Gustin, father and son were the first settlers in the town of Cheshire, NH. locating near Gustin Pond Road 13. They erected there the first habitation in Town. Samuel was unmarried ( widower ) always living with his son. He was a fit man for his times, earnest and positive He labored faithfully to establish the settlement. He was the first two clerk, March 1766, one of the selectmen, proprietors committee, and ‘ lot layer ‘ for several years. He was agent for the settlers in obtaining an extension of the charter also represented the in the contests, inspecting boundaries, in his position he seems to have stood firmed for what he deemed right. As a member of the committee of safety, he was imbibed with spirit of liberty, which found expression in many ways.
