Oregon Pioneer Certificate Michael Trip toOregon 1846-18847 story MAP SHOWING DONATION LAND CLAIM Have other death date from Mae Drew- 2 Dec 1897 His Mother's maiden name was Nancy Pope His father's name was Archibald Clark Jason Squire Clark with his wife and two children, Elizabeth and James,made the overland trip to Oregon in 1847 from Indiana. He migrated with the Michael clan. He was one of the earliest settlers of Brownsville, Oregon and later moved to Harrisburg, Linn Co. Oregon. In 1857 he established his home in the Rogue River Valley in Oregon and remained there till 1865 when he migrated to the Territory of Washington, locating in the White River Valley near Kent, Washington. From the Sunday Democrat in Albony, Oregon. Jason Clark settled near Harrisburg. He helped build and was part owner of the first sawmill at that place. After a few years he sold his interest and property and moved to Winchester, in southern Oregon and there operated a ferry. In order to start the ferry he drove to Portland and paid two hundred and fifty dollars for a large hemp rope which would reach across the Umpqua River at the place he operated the ferry. Before long Clark again sold out and removed to Washington Territory. He settled on the White River not far from the present site of Tacoma. His family consisted of 5 daughters and 3 sons. His Donation land claim was listed No. 700-15 Sept. 1850 ----------------------------------------------------------------- From Marjorie Nichols . Ann and Jason along with Hannah and William A. Forgery moved in 1857 to Rogue River Valley in Jackson Co, Oregon. Both sisters had children born in Jackson Co. Listed in the 1860 census,Ca. In 1865 Clarkes moved to the White River Valley where Jason went into the ferry business Had to make special trip to Portland to acquire heavy duty rope for his ferry work. In 1867 they moved to the White River Valley in Kent Wash. Ann died soon after the move. Clark and Forgey hoped to STRIKE IT RICH in Jackson Co. gold mines. Bristow notes say that they travelled to Oregon in Jared Michael's wagon -----------------------------------------------------------------
