He was the first Delano born since his ancestors were de Lannoyes. The family was poor for four generations when Captain Ephraim Delano made a fortune in sea trade. His son Warren Delano carried on the trade. There were a lot of Warren Delanos after Jonathan Delano married Mercy Warren, Richard Warren's daughter. They had 13 children COPY MATERIALS ON PAGE 394 ----------------------------------------------------------------- PAGE 294 OF DELANO BOOK -THE HOUSE OF DELAN0 by Major Joal Delano Lt Jonathan removed from the township of Dartmouth, Bristol, Conn. and was one of the original proprietors of Dartmouth in the confirmatory deed from Gov.Bradford Nov. 13 1694 the right derived from father Phillip De La Noye whose name was among the 36 shareholders who received their title from the Indians Dachems, Wasamequin and Wamsutta. His share comprised of 800 acres. One authority said that he lived near the brook at Tusket Hill where he built a mill. ( Bayliss history of New Plymouth Vol. 4 Pg 93 ) Jonathan Delano and Seth Pope were chosen deputies at general court. June 1689 ( Pg 100 ) Dec 1689 were reelected. He held many offices besides being Constable, Surveyor, Commissioner, selectman, ect. From PLYMOUTH COLONIAL RECORDS Vol V1 pg 223 he was commissioned Lieutenant by Governor Hinkley Dec 25, 1689 and served in the Indian war of 1675 and 1676 he was with Captain Benjamin Church at Mount Hope, the stronghold of King Phillip, the Indian chief. Within three weeks of the Churchs commission he had King Phillip, the Indian chief, he had King Philip's lair at Mount Hope surrounded. Capt.
