Misc. Notes
Gilmore Lincoln had come to Ohio before the Thomas Cady family and lived at Lawrenceville, Madison Co. Ohio. Undoubtedly this is why his father-in-law came to Ohio. The Lincoln branch of the family did not lose to the milk sickness. Gilmore was administrator of the Thomas Cady estate and sold the assets taking notes for 138.73 dollars in 1821 and in 1826 there was still 520.02 dollars unpaid. He soon returned to Omeida Co. N.Y. and the the town of Lawrenceville disappeared and the cemeteries were plowed over. _________________________________________________________ OHIO MARRIAGES by Marjorie Smith- 1818 Nov 25 Lincoln, Gilman and Sally Cody by Michael Patton in Franklin Co. _________________________________________________________ _From Odds and Ends- History of Madison Co by Madison Co Historical Society."In 1820 there were 4,799 in Madison Co. In about 1816, the Gilmore Lincolns came to Deer Creek Township and settled at the location of a few homes called Lawrenceville which was just being formed about a mile north of Lafayette. ________________________________________________________- Note and observation-Gilmore and Sally Lincoln moved to Deer Creek township, Madison Co. Ohio in about 1816 to an area just north of Lafayette called Lawrenceville which was laid out by a Mr. Gwynne. The Thomas Cady family, he being father of Sally Cady Lincoln, Gilmore's wife' moved to Ohio in 1820 or shortly before . The entire family of Thomas Cady, died of milk sickness. Twenty seven of the 85 cemeteries in the County have disappeared, two of the 7 in Dear Creek, Township. The one at Lafayette was not formed at the time and the location of the Gwynne Cemetery is not known. Since the Cadys located on the Gwynne location of Lawrenceville, one can only assume that they were probably buried there and the cemetery lost. ._____________________________________________________ From the History of Madison Co. Ohio W H Beers and Co. 1883.-Gilmore Lincoln and Alexander Ross were elected as fence viewers in 1823. This means that the Lincolns did not go back to N.Y. immediately after the 1820 deaths of the Cadys. His son, William, was born in Ohio in 1822. In 1816, Thomas Gwynne commenced laying off lots for a town on the east side of Deer Creek, one and a half mile northwest of where LaFayette is now situated. The town was named Lawrenceville, but was always better known and LIMERICK. In about two to three years the following families( Listed) including Gilmore Lincoln and Aaron Delano. The Cady family arrived at least three years later------ ----------------------------------------------------------------- I have a note from a book that his father was a captain in the Revolutionary war and that he was a cabinet maker by trade. Also that he was at one time an owner of a barge in the Erie Canal. He was one of 13 children. His mother was a native on New Hampshire and was of French descent.
