Aristides Stevens in a native of Penn. born in 1818 the son of Allegiance and Thankfull
( Goff ) Stevens. His mother died when he was quite young. He remained with his father in Penn. until 1839 when the family came to McHenry Co. where his father died the following year. Mr Stevens entered 40 acres of land in Greenwood twp. and soon after increased it to 80 acres. The first year after coming to the County he worked in the mill at Greenwood. The next three years he rented the mill and ran it for four years. Since then he returned to farming and increased his holdings to 170 acres, 90 acres being tillable, balance pasture and timber, he has been prosperous and made his farm one of the best in the township.
