Lewis Boone of the famous Boone family of Kentucky settled in Greenwood township in the spring of 1837. Boone and the head of a neighbor McCollum family disagreed over land claims and several times came to blows. Boone, who was a powerful man,tore down the log cabin the McCollum had built on the land in question, cut every log in two and whipped a man who had assisted in building it. Then the McCollums organized a party of friends and waylaid Boone and gave him a good drubbing., but Boone maintained his claim through the courts. Those were the days of two fisted men, who had a way of their own settling their differences.
