He was educated in the local schools and went to Fayette with his father in 1878 and dealt in tobacco for several years He lated was in the confectionary business in Salisbury for 2 years and the to Marshall where he operated a meat market. At the time of his death he was living in Marceline. He was a Democrat and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. He was a reliable and highly respected citizen of his community.
