In memory of Col. Experience Storrs. He was a portly figure and friendly in disposition, a respectful professor of the Christian religion. In the American conflict he sustained the rank of Colonel. From the field of war returned a quiet and peaceful citizen, an honorable and useful member of the community. He often represented the town in the General Assembly and for many years previous to his death exemplary. His life was uniformly exercised the office of the Justice of Peace

1766 Mansfield Experience Storrs is made Captain of the 2 nd Company or “ trainband “ in the 5 th regiment of Conn. militia.
1769-70 Experience was a selectman Also in 1771,74 and 75.
Jan 1774 Census 2,443 White 11 Black and 12 Indians.
April 1775 Mansfield men respond to “ Lexington Alarm “ and march to the Boston area.
1775 May till December In the siege of Boston Lt. Col. Experience Storrs commands 2 nd Company of third regiment under General Putman.
1776 Dec. Lt. Col. Experience Storrs and other Mansfield men serve under General Washington in New York Campaign.
1777 Experience Storrs was selectman. March 10 A committee of Inspection with Civil Authority set to meet on the first Monday of the month to aid enforcement of State laws on the morals of the people, regulation of prices and support of the credit of paper money. Oct. Colonel Experience Storrs assumes command of the 5 th Regiment of Conn. Militia.
1779-80 and 86 and 90 Experience Storrs was a selectman.
1787 The town votes on on the question of whether the inhabitants should approve of the Constitution
1789 Nov 9 After spending the previous night in Ashford, Pres. George Washington traveled through Mansfield ( on what is now Route 44 A ) to take breakfast at the Grigham Tavern in Coventry
1790 Census of Mansfield 2,635 whites and 7 slaves.
10 Jan 1795= The president of the United States recommends Thursday the 19 th day of February next as a day of public Thanksgiving throughout the U.S.
