He walked all the way to Wisconsin. He was in the Civil War and lost a finger. He returned from the war, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1867. He was County Attorney in both Washara and Shawano Counties. He was a member of the Wisconsin legislature. I have a copy of his Civil War pension application. He served in Co.1, 37 th Wisc. Infantry. I have a poor picture of him

From THE BLUE BOOK of the STATE OF WISCONSIN by J.D.Beck 1909 He was only 10 years old when they moved to Wisconsin There were no schools for 5 years but he had been in school in VT. and was home taught till he was 18 and entered High School in Berlin. He had a busy life with logging, farming, raising stock and practicing law.
