In 1850 Joseph Cady moved his family to Wisconsin. Some came by packet boat and some by ox cart and walking. They stayed a short time in Milwaukee and the moved to Indian land now known as Berlin

From THE BLUEBOOK of the STATE OF WISCONSIN by J.D.Beck 1909 Jacob Cady came to Wisconsin from Lowell, Mass. Jacob Cady, although he had only a common school education was a man of unusual ability and a leader among men. He was possessed of strong will power and was generous to the poor, liberal to the causes of religion and of unbounded hospitality. He was no politician but was chairman of the town board and held other minor offices.
