Dr James Gustine, oldest son of Lemuel Gustine pursued his academic studies in Dickinson College and graduated in the class of 1798 with a degree of .A.B. He afterwards received a degree in A,M. from the same institution. He persued the study of medicine in the office of his father and graduated after the usual coures of lectures in the University of Penn. with the degree of M.D. He located in Natches, Miss. but afterwards returned to Carlisle to assist his father, whose health began to fail. He was elected a trustee of Dickinson College in 1808. Several years after his father’s death he returned to Nactchez, where he spent the remainder of his life as a planter and as a practitioner of Medicine

He married Mary Ann Duncan b 1790,d 1863. Her father was John Duncan and her mother was Mary Postlethwaite. They were married 5 April 1898 in Carlisle, Cumberland Co, Pa.
