Newcomb One can only imagine the pain and misery that stalked the last days of Joshua Holden, as lay in a crude bed in som and moved to Nave forgotten pioneer cabin in the little villiage of Nephi. the boyhood in N.C. his youth and early days in the hill counthrey of Southern Tenn., his marriage and rearing a large family. Their removal to south Illinois where they first heard of the MORMONS and joined the in believing in the restoration of the ancient Gospel and the Church of Jesus Christ, of subsequent persecution and hardship, of the death of his wife in a frontier town in Iowa. he spent the last ten years of his life in the desert valleys of Utah. He joined the church in 1940 and moved to Nauvoo, Ill. in 1842. ordained into 70' in 1844 When he joined the çhurch he was declared a man of strong mind and well skilled in the scriptures. He and wife were amony the few who received their endowments in the Nauvoo Temple. in 1854 in Nephi he pledges a tenth of his crop into perpetual emigration.fund after tithing of said crop. 10 Oct 1857 William R. Holden went with others from Nephi to Salt lake City to defend Zion agains her enemies. 1860 census - Nephi, Juab Co, Utah Territory- Listed as a cooper, ( Barrel Maker ) aged 60, wife,Dorothy, aged 50 i Nov 1855 - At the old endowment house in Salt Lake City he is sealed for time and eternity by proxy of his present wife, Dorothy to his deceased with Mary Talley whom Joshua had laid to rest in some forgotten grave a thousand weary miles away. Present for their endowmenwre Joshua's son James R an wife Jane R.
