From a newspaper in Lancaster, MO. John R. Hardin was born in the State of N.J. 8 March 1833. Moved to Iowa in 1857 and settled in Muscaline in 1862. He married Miss Julia Everette of Muscaline in 1863. TO them were born 9 children, only two living in 1923. His wife died in 1901 amd he lived with his children and died at the home of his son, Tom, in Lancaster, Mo. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War and after that time made his home at Ainsworth, Iowa. He was the member of the Baptist Church and taught Sunday School class for 46 years. Then his eye sight failed and he still attended the claSs faithfully. He was active in public affairs and was known and beloved by all. After a short service at his son,Tom, home the body was taken back to Ainsworth, Iowa, where the funeral was conducted in the old church where he lived and worked so long. Hardin is a farmer and stockmaraiser residing on section 6, Oregon Township, where he was the owner of 120 acres in addition to which he owned 40 acres on section 5.He was a native of Sussex Co. N.J. born in 1833 and the son of Joshua and Effie Roof Hardin both were natives of N.J. John R. Hardin was reared on a farm and has made farming his life's work. He came to Iowa in 188858 and settled un Muscatine Co, where he remained for 12 years coming to Washington Co. in 1871. He was married in Muscatine Co. in 1867 to Julia A Everett, a native of Iowa born in 1844. ( they had eleven children ) They were members of the Baptist Church and in the work of the church they took great delight. Politically he was a Democrat. In 1863 during the the dart days of the war. he enlisted in the Co. A. 35 Th Iowa Vol Inf. he went into the field a strong man and but a few months passed before he was overtaken by disease and on account of disability was discharged after 6 months of faithful service. As a partial compensation for the loss of health while defending his country he now receives a small pension. Commensing life in poverty he has by industry and economy acquired a fine property having one of the best improved farms in this section of the county. As a Christian man he endeavors to exemplify in his life the teaching of our Saviour.
