From HISTORY OF SUSSEX AND WARREN COUNTIES , N.J.by Jmaes P,Snell - 1881. Joshua Hardin was born on the homestead in Lafayatte Twp. Sussex Co. N.J. 26 Sept 1801. He attended school and worked on the farm till he was 16 years oldwhen he removed to Stilwell Twp. and worked in agriculture labor until he was 25 years of age.He then moved to Frankfort Twp and learned the trade of blacksmithing. After gaining a knowledge of the business he went to Newton, N.J. where he lived for 14 years working at his trade. In 1855 he removed to Green Twp. and purchased the farm on which his family now reside. In 1830 he married Effie, daughter of Michael Roff of Newton Twp. Mrs Hardin 's grandfather was Christopher Roff, who emigrated from Germany in the middle of the eighteenth century. ( There were 10 children of the marriage ). Josphua Hardin always followed farming and his life was passed in a devout Christian manner. He was a good neighbor and a knd father, and was respenced by all who knew him. He attended the Prespbyterian Church and was a Democrat. He dead 12 March 1866. Mrs Hardin is now living on the olf homestead in Green, she is in her 72 year, hale and hearty and beloved by all who know her.
