He and his brother were working in a field with an Indian servant when they were attacked by Indians hiding in the bushes. He and his brother escaped to their garrison house but the Indian servant was killed. In 1725 he was in the armed service at Lancaster, Ma.
In the March meeting of 1726/27 the usual officers were chosen. when Oliver Walder was elected as one of the constables, declined to serve. Then the moderator asked Wilder if he refused to pay the five pounds as the law directs, and Wilder said that he did refuse. Ancient law compelled a man who refused an office to which he was elected to pay a fine.

Inscription on his grave stone at Lancaster. Here lies interred ye body of Col. Oliver Wilder who died March ye 16, ADomini 1765 in the 71 st yeqr of his age. The stroke of death has laid my Head, in this dark and silent bed: the trump shall sound, I hope to rise, and meet my SAVIOUR in the skies.”
