From JONES GENEALOGY pg 34 Samuel Jones is listed as a freeman at Saybrook, Conn. In 1669 and was an early settler there. Lyme was included in Saybrook till 1667 being called East Saybrook and the family tradition says that Samuel owned a large portion of Lyme. he lived near the mill which is sometimes called Jones Mill. He became elector in 1667 and constable in 1669. In 1684 he was made Lieut. of the Saybrook Trainband and in 1699 Capt. of the same. --------------------------------------------------------------- They had 7 children named Samuel, Mary, Martha, Thomas, John, Caleb and Sarah ----------------------------------------------------------------- FROM New England historical and genealogical, register VOL 59 Captain Samuel Jones of Saybrook married Jan. 1 1666< Mary was the daughter of Dea. Francis Bushnell. She died in 1727. He was made an elector Oct 16, 1667, a constable in 1669 was firmed by the General Assembly as lieutenant of the Saybrook trainband on May 8, 1684 and was made its captain on May 11, 1699 --------------------------------------------------------------
