From Olds material found in the Jonesville Public Library. This is a 4 page detailed story of Sg. Daniel Olds while serving in the Revolutionary War from 1776 to 1779. He was from the Mansfield, Conn. area. quote "The foregoing was recited by Daniel Olds, the 73, to his son-in-law, Benaiah Jones 3 rd. and attested to by him as a Justice of the Peace on Sept 27, 1732. Olds was granted a pension of $ 106.66 per annum effective March 4, 1831 paid with accumulations through March in 1831. He died two years later on Sept.16 th. His widow, Lois Stanley Jones was allowed pension on her application executed Sept. 8 1845 at which time she was 83 and a resident of Jonesville. Hers was $ 80 per annum. She died Sept. 1854 survived by her children Daniel, Dexter, Kingsley, Jeremy and Lois Jones. ---------------------------------------------------------------- From 150 YEARS IN THE HILLS AND DALES Vol 1 Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Olds died 1836 and buried in Sunset View Cemetery, Jonesville. He had served in the battles of White Plains, Trenton, and Prinston and in the Spencer's expedition to Rhode Island. In 1812 a new family from the East headed by Revolutionary soldier Daniel Olds came to Painesville, Ohio, from Ashfork, Conn. He was the son of James and Sarah Kingsley Olds. After the war he wandered with his family from Conn. to Mass. and then to Painesville, Ohio. Finally in 1831 he came with his family to the tiny town of Jonesville founded by his son-in-law. His nine children were all born in Pera, Mass. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From JONES, MOORE, ALLEN FAMILIES by Vivian Lyon Moore In 1812 the Olds family headed by Daniel Olds, a Revolutionary War veteran found his way to Painesville from Mass. The olds and Jones families met and were associated together. The friendship resulted in the marriages of James Olds to Caroline Jones and Lois Olds to Benaiah Jones 3 rd...Both ceremonies were performed by Benaiah Jones 11 in his capacity as Justice of the peace. ---------------------------------------------------------------- from a typed page found in the Hillsdale Library. Daniel, the father of Lois Olds, was a lad of only 17 when he enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1776 two years later he was advanced to the rank of Sergeant retaining the rank also in 1779. He participated in the battles of White Plains, Trenton, Prinston and was a member of the Spencer's Expedition to Rhode Island. After removing to Peru, Mass. he took an active part in local affairs and lived there many years. In 1812 he followed the movement from his and neighboring counties which had its focus on the area around Painesville, Ohio. He and his family moved from Paineville Ohio to Jonesville, Mich. about 1831. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From THE OLDS FAMILY by Edson B. He was a pensioner of the Revolutionary War and the above data taken from his own statements in the Pension Office Washington. CHICAGO STREET IN THE VILLAGE OF JONESVILLE. From the old part of the cemetery records show Benaiah Jones Sr. and Daniel Olds as Revolutionary War veterans. Another record shows them on the honor roll of the Revolutionary War ( 1775 - 1783 ) ----------------------------------------------------------------- From OLDS - The data about birth, marriage and deaths Were taken from his military. He was a pensioner of the Revolutionary War. His name was sometimes spelled Oulds in some war records. --------------------------------------------------------------- As was the custom of the times for children to take care of their parents in their old age, Daniel and Lois Olds came to Jonesville to live with their son James and daughter-in-law Lois ( Stanley ) Olds. This was in 1831
