From Rebecca Burdick Winters and The Mormons. He was born at Hopkinton, R.I.. in 1762. He enlisted in the Revolutionary war at 18 in Catskill, N.Y. serving under Benedict Arnold who was also a descendant of the first Robert Burdick and was in the army at the time of Arnold's treason. He was a guard over Major Andre when the later was executed. He was discharged in 1782 and applied for and was granted a pension which continued till 1845. He spent the rest of his life in Chautaugua Co. near Buffalo, N.Y. Gideon married twice, his first wife in 1792 was Catherine ( Robertson ) and his second wife in 1814 was the widow, Mrs Jane ( Ripley ) Brown. In June 1833 near Jamestown, N.Y. he and family all joined the Mormon Church. That fall they all went to Kirkland, Ohio, to help build the Temple. After suffering persecution and threats because of their latter-day beliefs. The family went to western Missouri and were forced out so moved back to Nauvoo and then were forced to go to Salt Lake. He died in Quincy, Ill. in April 1846 before his family all went to Utah. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Gideon Burdick was a Rev. War veteran and received an annual pension of 40 dollars from 1832 to 1845. He was L.D.S. resembled Ethan Allen He always spent the anniversity of the birth of his first child ( Feb 7 ) in fasting and prayer in the woods in fiullfilment of a vow made for the deliverance of his first wife. He had moved to Kirkland Lake, Ohio.
