From Cemetery Records and BRADFORD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY When Charles Roof came to this area he lived at Wysox for 3 years and then moved to Frenchtown where he lived till 1842 and then moved back and bought a farm from H.W. Tracy. he original farm was 154 acres and he added 184 and 186 acres. He was a Baptist and a Democrat. dates- Cemetery records and from Bradford Co. Historical Society. From Kelly Parks-His will, written 13 Sept. 1876 probate 4 Feb 1880 gave Thomas Jefferson got the farm,Sophie $ 1500, Henderson got lot Creek ? Historical Society Charles Roof, the oldest son of Jacob and Hannah Stubble Roof was born in 1809 in Hampton Twnship, Sussex Co., New Jersey. He married Maria Lantz, daughter of Peter and Judith Van Ness Lantz. When a young man, Charles migrated to Bradford Co. Penn. In 1842 he purchased a farm in Standing Stone Township, he erected a new house which is still inhabited. It is the first house on the left from Rt. 6 on the Keene Summit Rd. Three children were born to Charles and Maria Roof, Sophia Elizabeth Born 1883, Married (!) Joel Huff (2) Johanthan Stevens. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Standing Stone cemetery has an old area in the center and Charles Roof is buried there but there is no record of grave sites and you cannot read the inscriptions on the stones.
