He was a Civil War Veteran according to his obituary, Information on him comes from several obituaries that I have.Below is a note in WHERE WAGONS ROLLED-THE HISTORY OF LINCOLN COAND THE PEOPLE BEFORE 1925." I find that some of the data is inaccurate but I am writing as written. " John Adam Kleber was the ancestor of several families who settled in the Arriba-Bovina area. He was born Sept. 15, 1836 in Kinderjeim, Germany, and came to the United States about 1875. He served in the Northern Army during the Civil War. He was captures by the confederates and imprisoned for 18 months. Only a few survived till the end of the war. On April 1869. in Fort Madison, Iowa, he married Mary Billiar who was born Sept 20, 1851 in New York. They homesteaded in Wilcox, Nebraska and on Dec 24, 1905, they came in Lincoln Co, Colorado because of Mary Kleber's health. They bought the Montgomery place north of Arriba where they lived for many years. John died in 1921 and Mary died on Feb. 21, 1930. This couple had a family of 7 children, Mary ( Mrs Lewis Miller ) Katherine ( Mrs. Jacob Miller ),Elizabeth, Philip who married Margaret Stevens,daughter of Ed H. Stevens, Johns Adam, Henry and August. Their son, John Adam Kleber, came to Colorado in 1897 and worked in Denver and Pueblo. He was born Aug 26, 1877, in Saline County, Nebr. and his wife, Emma Barbara Amman, was born in Nebraska, Near Wilcox, on August 22, 1878. John worked for his broter- in- law, Jake Miller, north of Bavina and then homesteaded the SW 1/4 Sec. t7 R 53. We fould his grave and that of his wife in the Arriba Cemetery just right of the gate in about the second row. A two x three foot white stone.
