Sebrean Baldwin was the son of Levi Baldwin and grandson of Jesse Baldwin. His father was a minister in the Baptist Church.
When 16 years of age he went to Penna. where he taught school for 5 terms. He was married to Lovina Stevens on Oct 1 1835 In 1839 he moved with his wife and two small children to Illinois where he settled on a small farm north of the village of Greenwood, where nine of his 12 children grew to maturity. Eight of these nine started out as school teachers in their early life. Two of them, Normon and Seth,entered into the service of their country by enlisting in the Civil war. Normon in Co. H. Illinois infantry and Seth in Co. K. Both passed away in the service. Sebra D. made teaching profession as his life’s work and was elected Co. Supt. of Schools passing away while in this office. Aristides E. studied medicine and practiced the profession for some time, afterwards taking up dentistry. Jesse A. and Henry R. were both successful lawyers in the city of Chicago. Jessie became judge of the Circuit Court which office he held for a number of years. The subject of this sketch. Sebrean Baldwin was a public spirited man. He held the office if Justice of Peace for 16 years and was town collector for several years. Mr and Mrs Baldwin celebrated their golden anniversary Oct. 1885. Mr. Baldwin passed away 8 Jan 1896 having attended the age of 83 years.
