Source was found in the Mesa L.D.S. library in NEW ENGLAND FAMILIES by William Nicholas Cutter US D2 31 volume 2. There are 7 generations and they are in my notes on a deed.. He was called a carpenter . On April 14, 1714 he bought 600 acres of land from Jabez Allen of Killingly and lived on the farm the rest of his life. In 1717 he was representative from Canterbury to the Conn. General Assembly. He gave land for a burying place that is part of the Brooklyn Cemetery. --------------------------------------------------------------- From The Ancestors of Edna Frances Cady by Robert Cady Gates He moved to Groton with his parents. In 1708 he sold his real estate there and in a deed he is called " Carpenter". From Groton he moved north to ye town of Canterbury in Conn. in 1714, he bought for 104 pounds a tract of 600 acres adjoining Tatnick Hill in Canterbury. He settled on this farm with his large family and spent his days there in peace and prosperity. He represented the town of Canterbury in the Connecticut General Assembly in 1717. In 1724 he donated land for a burying ground which is now the original part of the Brooklyn, Conn. Cemetery where he is buried with his kin. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From THE HISTORY OF WINDHAM COUNTY Pg 487 Canterbury was enlarged by the annexation of land on the north. Daniel Cady, already a resident of the tract was added to the inhabitants of Canterbury Pg 566 The settlement of this area was somewhat quickened by the annexation to Pomfret. Daniel Cady of Killingly, father of Mrs. Richard Adams, bought 600 acres of land near Tatnick Hill of Jabez Allen, 1n 1714 and settled there with a large family of sons and daughters. Pg 567 The land owned by Daniel Cady and other lands at Pomfret were separated from the main part of town by other territories and there was no roads through which made going to church almost impossible. Some found it easier to go to Canterbury to the south Pg 569 When the town of Brooklyn was laid out between Pomfret and Canterbury, Daniel Cady was one who had taxable lands. Pg. 751 The first settlers north of the Providence Road were Nicholas, Daniel and Joseph Cady. from Groton, Mass, soon after 1700. Danial's farm was north of Joseph's and after a few years passed into the hands of William Larned, who built a large house which ranks as one of the oldest homes in Putman villiage. Pg 926 On October 13 th 1709 by the payment of 40 pounds received title to some unclaimed land. Pg 928 About 1717 he moved to the south part of Pomfret ----------------------------------------------------------------- From GROTON AND THE INDIAN WARS by Samuel A. Green He was listed at Groton on 9 July, 1707 as enlisting during the Queen Ann's War. Another article in the book lists him as having a garrison house with eleven men in Groton during the King William's War. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From HISTORY OF WINDHAM COUNTY CONNETICUT by Ellen D. Larned Vol 1 Pg 212. He was one of several who petitioned authorities for a new parish between Ponfret and Canterbury because of the difficulty in reaching either parish because of poor trails it was difficult to get to Church and and it would allow a school in the area.
