THE BOONE FAMILY - GENEALOGY HISTORY OF GEORGE AND MARY BOONE By Hazel Atterbury Spraker
Their children all born in Eng land. They were members of the Society of Friends and with 6 children sailed for America in1717.
From The Boone Family by Spraker- children all born in England. They were members of the Society of Friends and with 6 children sailed for America in1717.Three of them,GEORGE, SArah and SQUIRE children had gone before him about 1712-1713 SO THEY HAD an idea of the conditions. George Jr. was married in America in 1713 so they had been in America several years before their folks and their six other children There is no record of the ship but they left Bradninch, England, 17 Aug, 1717 and arrived at Philadelphia on 29 th Sept. 1717. Geo. Boone was a weaver by trade.They moved several times the first two years that he was in America but finally settled in what is now Exeter Township in Burke Co. Penn. The family joined the Friends Church ( Quakers). He disciplined by the church for openly acknowledging in the meeting in giving his consent for John Webb to keep company with his daughter in order to marry, contrary to the order established by the church. He was buried in the graveyard of the Friends' Society at the Exeter Meeting House. No stones mark the graves of him and his wife which was the custom of the Society. ---------------------------------------------------------------- From Boone by Bryan LDS film 989423 Born 8 miles from Exeter, England in 1662. Came to America in 1717 with wife and 10 children. They had two daughters and 9 sons. They arrived in Philadelphia Oct. 10, 1717. They came from Culumpton, Devonshire, England. They were dissenters and belonged to SOCIETY OF FRIENDS or QUAKERS. George Jr. had arrived first in 1713. On arrival he bought a large tract of land on the Schylkill River and moved there at once. This is a short distance southeast of Reading, Pa. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Boone Family History by Mayfield says that he died 2 February, 1740.They journeyed to Abington where George lived and then to North Wales in Gwynedd Township for 2 years. George settled in Burks Co. Penn in 1718 and named the Exeter Township. He was a Quaker and a landowner. One account says that he moved to Oley, Penn. and lived in a log cabin nearby and died in Exeter, Penn. on 27 July, 1744 at the age of 78 . He was buried in the Exeter Burying Ground. No stone marks the grave ----------------------------------------------------------------- FROM OUR BOONE FAMILIES Pg 1 George Boone 111 was born and baptized in 1666 in Stoke Canon, England and dies July 27,1744 in Berke Co. Pa. He married Mary Milton Maugridge in 1689 in England, daughter of John Maugridge, a weaver by trade. She was born and baptized in 1669 in St.Disen's Church in Bradninch, England. George Boone was also baptized 20 July 1690 at St.Disen's Church in Bradninch, England. George Boone was a weaver by trade. All of George and Mary's children were born in England. In 1702 they quit the St.Disen's Church of England to become members of the religious Society of Friends, The Quakers. In the year 1713 George sent his three oldest children to America to find land. Sarah Boone and Squire Boone remained in America and their brother, George, returned to England to tell his father about what they had found. George Boone 1V returned to America in May 1713. George Boone 111 and wife Mary Boone and their remaining children set sail for America Aug 17, 1717. They are said to have left the town of Bradninch, England, and walked to Bristol to get on a ship for America. George Boone paid 35 pounds for 6 full fares and 2 half fares. It was an 8 week voyage and they landed at Philadelphia, Pa. on Oct. 10, 1717. On April 4, 1718, George and Mary and children settled on 400 acres of land 50 miles west in Oley Twp. Berke Co. Pa. on the Schylkill River about 6 miles southeast of Reading, Pa. They settled near their daughter, Sarah Boone, and her husband Jacob Stover. George Boone was Justice of the Peace there. All of George and Mary's children married and had large families except John who never married. All of their children and their families lived close around them. George Boone 111 was 51 years old and Mary Boone was 49 years old when they came to America. There were 5 intermarriages between the Boone and Lincolns in Berke Co, Pa. The Boones and Lincolns stayed together in Pa. Va. Ky. and Ind. Mordecai Lincoln's grandson, Abraham, was friend of Daniel Boone . Abraham Lincoln's grandson became the 16 th president of the USA, our President Abraham Lincoln. George Boone 111 died at the age of 78 in Oley Twp, Berke Co. Pa. and Mary died feb 2, 1740 in Berke Co. Pa. leaving eight children and 10 grandchildren. George Boone had much land holdings. He owned land where our present Washington, D.C. stands. The nice residential section of Georgetown in Washington, D.C. is on land that George owned. There is a historical marker in Georgetown which states that Georgetown was named Georgetown because George Boone once owned the land. ----------------------------------------------------------------- The Boone Web page says that he was a weaver.
