The following is from Mary Brinkley, her granddaughter.--------Grandmother and her family belonged to the educated, genteel people of linneus. The Bartons, the Wilcoxes and their friends believed education was important. They believed in courtesy as well as law. order and honesty. Grandma taught school for several years before and after she married.. Grandma was often called Sallie. In about 1906 or 1908 she and her husband, Thomas Madison Brinkley, moved to Kansas City where their sons, T.M. Jr. and King lived. Sarah Brinkley belonged to the Atheneum, the P.E.O.. The United Order of the Confederacy and probably the Eastern Star. She liked to entertain and give lncheon parties.
Sarah Brinkley was a small woman. She stood about 5’2” or 5’3”. As a young woman she weighed about 120 or 130 lbs. In later years she weighed about 90 lbs as she suffered from asthma. She had fair skin and blue-grey eyes, a small mouth and fine, light brown hair. She was very slender through the shoulders but full through the hips. She never enjoyed very good health.
She loved to go and often went to Linneus to visit Aunt Mary Wilcox Betson, she also visited in Kentucky and Tucson. The Tucson visits were probably for her health. Aunt Mary Betson was very close to mother. While walking to church, Aunt Mary , who had bad sight, stumbled and knocked Grandmoher down. Grandmother broke her hip and only lived a few weeks. She was doctored at home and her funeral was held at her home which was customary.
