From Detroit News-June 9, 1930 - He was a Mason, a Shriner amd a Knights Templar. He fought in the Civil War as a private in the Co. G. Michigan Infantry and saw servive in all of the engagements of the army of the Patomic including Gettysburg and the Seige of Petersburg. He was a musician in the service. His regiment was selected to be an escort at the funeral of President Lincoln. he was mustered out at the age of 24.
He was in the meat packing business. He dropped ot of school at the age of 14 to help his dad in the meat business. Later he became a pardner in a business of Hammond, Sranish and Co. In 1903 he retired as active manager of one of the most prosperous food supply business. He was 62. His home had 33 rooms.
