From family member’s memory, Daiiel ( Herbert ) Mahar died from injuries when he fell from the roof while repairing the Methodist Church in Bentley. His mother, Margaret Maher, a devout Roman Catholic hurriedly took the two youngest children of Daniel’s, Erma and Frank, to the Roman Catholic Churuh and had the priest baptise them as Catholics so that the heathen Methodists could not have any claim on them.

His death certificate says that he died of Pneumonia
