Benjamin Hoyt was a very tall and strong man. He was a carpanter and the story is that he once held up a side of a building and kept it from falling on other individuals.He and his neighbor was hoeing in adjoining fields. His neighbor says that I have hoed as much as you except two hills. On checking it was found that the neighbor was hoeing one row and Hoyt was hoeing two rows. He carried a large stone into a mill and it was some time beforee someone could carry it out. During the French war ( 1744 ) he and other so ldiers were asked to carry barrels of water. 2 to a barrel. They complained that it was two heavy a work so Benjamin carried two at a time for 20 rods and back for a wager. He became sick with a nervous fever and soon died. Most of his children were very strong.
