Aaron Hovey left school at the age of 16 and went whaling for 3 years He came home and spent a year at Phillips Academy preparing for college and missionary work. While still in Andover ,Mass his health failed and again he quit school and received a commission as master’s mate in the flagship Farrugut, just before sailing he died.
