From StORRS-MOULTOM-SMITH CONNECTION - Huckins Storrs moved from Mansfield to Lebanon, NH about 1764 and was among the earliest settlers there. His name was affixed to the charter and he was involved in surveying for land grants, helping to lay out roads, building churches and in various appointed positions. He received 50 acres and 100 acres in land lotteries and established a sawmill on Sawmill Brook. Dartmouth college in nearby Hanover, NH.was being founded and Huckins along with his father and brother gave 750 acres to the school. He served as a private in the Rev. War between 26 Sept and 23 Oct 1777 in Col. Jonathan Chase's regiment and joined the Continental Army under General Gates near Saratoga. He was paid 4 pounds and 10 shillings for this service. He signed the Association
test " we do hereby solemnly engage and promise that we will do the utmost of our power at the risque of our lives and fortunes with arms oppose the hostile proceedings of the British Fleets and Armies against the United American Colonies" About 1780 he moved to Royalton, VT. where again he erected a sawmill, tannery, blacksmith shop and grist and boiling mill. The sawmill had been destroyed by Indians in 1777 but when he came he rebuilt it.According to the State of Vermont Revolutionary War Rolls, Huckins served a second tour of duty with the Army. It was recorded that Huckins Stores served a period of 6o days. His pay was 4 pounds, 13 shillings and 4 pence. He was with Captain Elijah Gates' Co. of Royalton Volunteers a part of Col. Benjamin Wait's Battalion.
