Roxbury Church Records says in will records 1X 224 " John Johnson, Surveyor General of all ye armies dyed and was burried ye day following ---------------------------------------------------------------- from THE PLANTERS OF THE COMMONWEALTH by Charles Edward Banks. John and Margaret Johnson were on one of the 10 ships of the Winthrop Fleet sailing to America in 1630. There destination was Roxbury, Mass. The records were all combined and which ship they came on is not known. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -From FAMILY TREE MAKERS ON LINE- ANCESTORS OF MELISSA JANE MYTINGER. John Johnson and family came to this country in a fleet with Winthrop landed in at Salem on June 33 1630. He settled in Roxbury, where he and his son-in-law Richard Mowry were made freemen 18 May 1631. He was active in the business of the Colony, as Juryman, serving on committees, as a surveyor he helped lay out towns surrounding Boston. On March 4 1634/35 he and another man were ordered to build a bridge across Muddy Creek. He was on a committee to determine the valuation of several town He was on a committee to draft men to fight the Pequot Indians. He was made surveyor General and was to store the stock of arms and ammunition of the Colony. His house burned with all the munitions. When town clerk the records were given to Goveror Winthrop's History AND DRAKES HISTORY OF ROXBURY. He was chosen to be in the first house of deputies and served for 21 additional years. He was clerk for the Ancient and Honorable Artillary Co. 1638-40, surveyor of arms 1641 -59 He was given 300 acres for this service . Late in life he was given 1000 acres in consideration for his great service to the Colony. Savage says that he was a man of estate and distinction. -----------------------------------------------------------------
