From 150 YEARS IN THE HILLS AND DALES James and Caroline ( Jones ) Olds came about 1830 and settled in Benaiah Jones’s first home. It was divided into two sections, one part a home and the other a tavern for an occasional travelor on the Chicago Trail. The Jones family built a new tavern and later in 1836 when thousands of pioneers came through the old tavern was reopened, The first winter was a very lonely winter and there was nothing to do inside or out. ----------------------------------------------------------------- fromTHE OLDS FAMILY by Edson B. Olds Pg 280 In 1830 was living in Geauga Co. Ohio. Moved to Jonesville Mich. in 1830. Was Captain in the Michigan Malitia in 1832. Town clerk of Jonesville in 1834 and afterwards County Register and Treasurer in Hillsdale Co. Mich. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From JONES GENEALOGY James Olds was Captain of the second company under his brother-in-law, Major Benaiah Jones 111. He is said to have served in the war of 1812 He acted as township clerk pro-tem Dec 13, 1834. He was the first register of deed of Hillsdale Co.He was a moderator in 1835, Justice of Peace and Highway Comminioner in 1837. He was the second postmaster on Jonesville assisted by his son Harvey. He had an interest in a sawmill and built the first bridge between Jonesville and Hillsdale.
