His son, William V. Rector was elected Auditor of the State by the Legislature in 1821. --------------------------------------------------------------- From THE RECTOR FAMILY RECORDS copy from History of Missouri by David Marsh. The editor of the MISSOURI GAZETTE, Mr Charles, and an opponent of slavery was violently asaulted by Mr Isaac N Henry editor of the ST.LOUIS INQUIRER a friend of slavery. Reverend Joseph Piggot was in company of Mr. Charles and endeavored to separate them when Mr Rector Whorton, friend of Henry, drew a pistol from his pocket and declared that he would blow him through if he interfered. Mr. Charles was a man of 50 years and his opponent of 25 years.Mr Charles used the assistance to great advantage. When the battle ended the damages sustained fell upon Mr Henry whose shoulder was unjointed.
