He moved to North Cohocton in 1828 and lived to Hamilton, Madison Co.NY. In 1870 he moved to Albion Madison Co, MI where died. Alpheus William Gustin was a stout, robust man, his business in early years was that of a carpenter but later he took on great contracts in building bridges first in the eastern part of PA in which he lived and he built many fine bridges in PA< Maryland. One at Point of Rocks on the Potomac River. It was destroyed by the Confederates in the early part of the war.
