Inlisted in Co D 22 nd Ohio Infantry in April2 1840 for 3 months. In Oct/ he inlisted in the 8 th Ohio Independent Co Sharpshooters as a private and was promoted up to orderly.. His company was in the Army of the Cumberland and was a special guard for General Thompson. He participated in hard fought battles of Mission Ridge, Buzzard's Roost.Kennasaw Mountain, Atlanta and Nashville. He was discharged July 26,1865 and farmed in Scioto Co and Ky. till 1873 when he went into the merchandile business in Powellsville but quit when he became Conty Sheriff in 1883 to 1885. Then he became Justice of Peace for six years in Greene Twsp,Treasurer for 2 years and land appraiser for 1 year and Postmaster of Powellsville nearly ten years. ----------------------------------------------------------------- His daughter, Mary, was the wife of Dustin Millard Gustin. Finney was well liked by all. Heheld numerous public offices.
