Misc. Notes
From HISTORY OF WASHINGTON AND KENT COUNTY. PAWCATUCK SEVENTH DAY BAPTIST CHURCH When and how this church was organized can be no better given than in the following statement taken from the first page of the old record book. " We, the following named persons, members of the First and Second Seventh Day Baptist Church of Westerly, having had previous consent and approbation of the above named churches, by the agency and assistance of Elder William B. Maxson and Elder Daniel Coon, were regularly organized into a distinct church in fellowship with the above named churches above named, at the Union Meeting House, at the village of Pawcatuck, in Westerly, on the 16 th of April 1840, styled the Pawcatuck Seventh Day Baptist Church; and did then and there enter into solemn covenant to walk in and maintain the commands of God and the faih of Jesus Christ, and all ordinances of the house of God, taking the Scriptures of the Old and New Testiments for our only rule of faith and practice, and agreeable thereto, to maintain a regular gospel church disipline." On page 796 David Coon ( date of death does not match so may not be our Daniel Coon ) A more than passing notice should be given to the services of Elders Henry Clarke and Daniel Coon. The first labored faithfully with little remuneration; the second was a great lover of music , an able expounder of the word of God and a most impressive man of prayer. His labors with the church only closed when failing health compelled him to retire from service. He passed away loved and lamented by all, May 21 st, 1858 ---------------------------------------------------------------- from Seventh Day Baptists in Europe and America. There is a picture of Rev.
