He arrived in Salem, Mass. in 1635 and was among the 60 colonists who marched from Watertown, Mass. to found Conn. during a terrible winter.They left Mass because of persecution for expressing Baptist views.He along with his wife and one daughter and four others formed the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Newport, R.I. Tasu ( Cooper ) Hubbart, his wife,was the first convert to the SDB Church in Newport. They were persucuted in Mass. for expressing their Baptist views.
