From HISTORY OF HEMLOCK BOTTOM - Jossiah Fassett came to Hemlock Bottom in 1795. he was a teacher and had been an artillaryman during the Rev. War. He was a very prosperous man and had the first tavern in the area, and conducted the first ferry in the area. he was a leading business man during his life. In 1800 he was justice of Peace and held the office till his death.
